CapMouse Privacy Policy
Effective date: June 14, 2026
What data does CapMouse collect?
None. CapMouse does not collect any data about you, your device, or your usage. The app does not have user accounts, does not require sign-in, and does not contact any servers operated by us.
What about my audio and transcripts?
Audio captured by CapMouse is processed locally on your iPhone using Apple's on-device speech recognition framework. The audio buffer is held in memory only for as long as it takes to produce a transcript and is then discarded. Audio is never written to disk and is never transmitted off your device.
Transcripts are stored only on your device, in the app's private storage area. You can delete any transcript at any time by removing it from the History screen. Uninstalling CapMouse removes all transcripts.
Does any data ever leave my device?
No data ever leaves your device through CapMouse. Specifically:
- No analytics or telemetry. CapMouse does not include any analytics SDKs, crash reporters, or telemetry services.
- No third-party services. CapMouse does not call any third-party APIs, including but not limited to OpenAI, Google, Amazon, or any cloud transcription service.
- No Private Cloud Compute. The AI reply-suggestion feature available on iOS 26 and newer uses Apple's on-device Foundation Models framework only. The Foundation Models framework available to third-party apps does not have any code path to Apple's Private Cloud Compute servers.
- No account or cloud sync. There is no user account system. Transcripts are stored on the device only and are not synced to iCloud or anywhere else by CapMouse.
What permissions does CapMouse request?
- Microphone access — Required to capture audio for transcription. The microphone is only active while you are using CapMouse in the foreground and only while you have started a transcription session.
- Speech recognition — Required to convert captured audio into text. This is processed by Apple's on-device speech recognition framework on your device.
Does Apple receive any data from CapMouse?
Apple's on-device speech recognition and on-device AI frameworks run entirely on your device. CapMouse does not send any data to Apple beyond what iOS itself sends as part of normal device operation (e.g., aggregated App Store usage statistics, which are controlled by your iOS settings under Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements, and are not specific to CapMouse).
Children's privacy
CapMouse is suitable for users of all ages and does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this privacy policy is ever updated, the effective date above will be updated and the changes will be described here. Because CapMouse does not collect any contact information from you, you will not receive a notification of changes — please re-read this policy when you update the app if you want to confirm there have been no changes.
